Les Arcs

Modernist purpose-built villages stepped up the mountain, 1600 to 2000.

Les Arcs is four numbered ski-in/ski-out resorts (Arc 1600, 1800, 1950, 2000) built between 1968 and 2003 in a deliberate modernist style by Charlotte Perriand and others. Arc 1800 is the largest and the bus-and-funicular hub; Arc 1950 is the highest-end with Italianate village styling; Arc 2000 sits closest to the Aiguille Rouge advanced runs. Bourg-Saint-Maurice in the valley below connects via funicular and is a useful gateway by train.
