Val Thorens

Europe's highest base at 2,300m: snow-sure, intermediate-piste-heavy, party-loud.

Val Thorens is Europe's highest-altitude purpose-built ski resort at 2,300 m. The architecture is functional-1970s rather than charming, but the trade-off is the most reliable early/late-season snow in the French Alps and ski-in/ski-out from almost every door. Terrain skews intermediate-to-advanced with a famously snow-sure upper cirque under Cime Caron. Nightlife is the loudest in Les 3 Vallées; family options exist but the resort tilts young-adult.
